Deciding to implement a new IT solution at the shipyard normally represents a significant investment on your part. At the same time, it involves a level of uncertainty, as you have to be sure that you are making the right choice. When selecting a new IT solution for shipbuilding and ship repair, you should at least seriously consider some of the issues below in order to define your success criteria. Shipbuilding is a discipline with some very specific criteria and does not correspond with standard manufacturing processes.

Streamlining the business procedures at a shipyard is one of the goals of implementing a new IT solution; however the streamlining must be done in accordance with the rules and procedures of shipbuilding and ship repair. Doing anything else can jeopardize the operations and finally the competitiveness of the shipyard.
